Hurricanes
Recently, my home was flooded—not once, but twice—by two hurricanes two weeks apart. Now, it’s in complete disarray. Walls are torn out, floors are removed, furniture is piled up, and workers are constantly coming and going. But the lessons I learned from a hurricane 19 years ago have helped me navigate this chaos calmly, knowing that, eventually, everything will come back together. In other words, as scary as it is, I know it will be okay. That first hurricane prepared me for those that would follow.
I wish I could say this would be my last experience with hurricanes, but living in South Florida means facing a yearly hurricane season. This season teaches me to be prepared, knowing that storms will come. Isn’t it similar to other “hurricanes” in our lives—the personal storms that can bring chaos or loss? These might be financial, relational, physical, or any crisis that shakes our lives. The Bible tells us, “There is a season for every activity” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2), which means both good and challenging seasons will come. Friend, when you face an UNwanted season, trust God. Remember how He carried you through previous storms, and trust that He’ll do it again because He will. Prepare by keeping His praise in your heart and practicing gratitude. This foundation will help you trust when the next UNexpected storm hits.
When you place the broken pieces of your life in God’s hands, storms lose their power to disrupt you internally. They can even transform you if you let them. Choose to trust God through the storm. When you do, life’s hurricanes can become opportunities for growth in your walk with the Lord.
